pine surgery has been improving during all its history in aspects relating to techniques and surgical approaches to treat the different pathologies but, this improvement has been determinant specially, during the last two decades.
Progressively, it has been accepted that the promptness recovery is one of the main determinants of the clinical result of the patient and that this faster recovery, was optimized when certain surgical principles, already described at the beginning of century XIX, like the minimum disruptions tissue, meticulous haemostasis and the careful closing of the anatomical planes were applied.
These principles were the bases to develop different techniques which make the surgery less invasive and are the fundament of the Minimally Invasive Surgery.
The Minimally invasive spine surgery has developed out of the desire to effectively treat disorders of the spinal discs with minimal muscle related injury, and with rapid recovery.
Many surgery areas incorporate minimally invasive technologies like laparoscopy, arthroscopy or endoscopy. In fact, the popularity of this endoscopic procedures have recently grown since they allow to minor interoperating tissue trauma and better and faster recoveries with shorten hospital stays. The early deambulation after the surgery improves the advantages perceived for patients, doctors, hospitals and the economic system.
The Minimally Invasive Surgery allows dealing with the most of the spine pathologies and offers an attractive alternative to the traditional approaches. However, it is fundamental, like in all the scientific procedures, that techniques will be reproductively and results will be comparable to those of the traditional techniques.
With this proposal, we organized this International Course of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. We will deal with the use of these surgical procedures in traumatic pathology of the thoraco-lumbar spine and in lumbar degenerative pathology. We count on with the participation of international experts in all these techniques. We wish that the program that we have elaborated and the final contents of this course will satisfy the expectations of all the assistants.
